The Department of Cardiology, Tweed Valley Hospital is made up of a Coronary Care Unit (CCU) Inpatient Cardiology Unit and a Diagnostic Unit which includes a comprehensive Cardiac Rehabilitation. The department is supported by a Director of Cardiology, Medical Registrars, and specialist Cardiac nursing staff.

Interventional Cardiology

Interventional Cardiology will occur within the new state of the art Cardiac Catherterisation Lab. The new service will perform both inpatient and Outpatient services including:

  • Diagnostic Coronary Angiograms

  • Perctaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI)

  • Future studies in Electrophysiology

Coronary Care Unit

The Coronary Care Unit comprises of 9 acute care beds - these are single rooms and used for acutely ill patients who require acute or critical care related to cardiac conditions and who require a greater nurse to patient ratio. A multidisciplinary team provides thorough assessment, diagnostic investigations and evidence-based intervention and therapeutic intervention to deliver and promote person centred care and recovery.

Cardiology Unit

The Cardiology Unit is a 23 monitored/Telemetry bed unit. We care for patients who are more stable but still require cardiac monitoring. The unit cares for patients who are diagnosed with cardiac, respiratory conditions and other patients who have co-morbidities that require cardiac monitoring.

Cardiac Diagnostic Unit & Cardiac Rehabilitation

Cardiac Diagnostic Unit performs inpatient Cardiac testing.

  • Echocardiograms

  • Exercise Stress Testing

Cardiac Rehabilitation is a comprehensive service to help peolpe with heart disease return to an active and satisfying life to prevent the recurrence of cardiac events. The Cardiac Rehabilitation program involves a team of health professionals working to help you manage your heart condition. We provide individual cardiac assessment and education focused on reducing cardiac disease risk factors, monitoring and managing your condition and improving your health. The program is managed by specialist Cardiac nurses in conjunction with our Physiotherapy Department and associated Allied Health professionals.
