Our Exercise Physiologist works as part of the Cardiac, Heart Failure and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services in a multidisciplinary team.

The Exercise Physiologist develops exercise programs which supports patients to manage their chronic conditions and improve their overall quality of life.

Hours: 8.00am – 4.30pm daily, at various sites in the Tweed-Byron region. Please contact your nearest site for specific days.

Our trained dietitians help people understand the relationship between food and health. Dietitians can help you make dietary choices to support your health, and to prevent and treat illness and disease.

Dieticians can assist with a range of conditions including diabetes, being overweight, coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, raised cholesterol, malnutrition, childhood feeding issues, and tube feeding.

Service includes:

* Nutrition assessment

* Information and education for individuals and groups.

Our Diabetes Educator provides diabetes education and support for people with diabetes and their families, either in one to one or group settings. They also work closely with the Diabetes Dietician.

We also provide education to health care professionals and support promotional activities that encourage people with diabetes to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

To access our service, you must be diagnosed with Type 1, Type 2, or Gestational Diabetes, Pre-diabetes, or require diet or insulin management. No referral is required.

Generalist Community Nursing is a free confidential service providing a range of services including post-acute hospital nursing, wound care, continence advice and management, management of venous access devices, Hospital in the Home (HITH), Palliative Care Nursing, nursing assessments, and client referral to other care providers including allied health and the Aged Care Assessment Team.

Child and Family Health Clinic

Our qualified Child and Family Nurses support families caring for children from birth to five years of age. Our nurses provide regular developmental screening, either in our clinic at Byron Central Hospital or via home visits, as well as information and support on breastfeeding, maternal and infant nutrition, introducing solids, growth and development,

The Cardiac Rehabilitation program involves a team of health professionals working to help you manage your heart condition. We provide individual cardiac assessment and education focused on reducing cardiac disease risk factors, monitoring and managing your condition and improving your health.

Our program is managed by the Cardiac Liaison Nurse in conjunction with our Physiotherapy Department and Exercise Physiologist.

The program is suitable for most people living with or at risk of heart disease and those recovering from medical or surgical intervention.

The Service provides Consultancy services to Lismore, Tweed and Murwillumbah Hospitals and Community patients. Education and consultancy services are also offered and attended at Residential Aged Care facilities. Multidisciplinary Team meetings/case reviews are conducted weekly and include Queensland Community Nursing Services to ensure continuity of care. Community Registered Nurses and multi-disciplinary team to monitor pain symptoms and offer support in collaboration with patient’s General Practitioner and treating specialists.

The Hearing Service promotes optimum hearing health for clients and their families who reside in the Tweed- Byron Network by delivering appropriate, effective and accessible care and facilitating a multi-disciplinary approach to care. Service provided by School Health, Audiometry and Immunisation Nurse.

Alcohol and Other Drug Counselling

The Northern NSW Local Health District has a range of services aimed at helping you make positive changes to your alcohol and drug use. These include:

* Individual counselling support to reduce or stop your drug/alcohol use

* Hospital consultation and liaison for those at risk of alcohol or drug withdrawal (available at Tweed, Ballina, Lismore, and Grafton hospitals)

* The Riverlands Inpatient Withdrawal Unit at Lismore Base Hospital - medicated withdrawal from drugs or alcohol
