BreastScreen NSW van is coming to Brunswick Heads

The mobile screening van will be in Brunswick Heads from 28 August to 12 September.

BreastScreen NSW provides free breast screening to women to support the early detection of breast cancer.

Jane Walsh, Director of BreastScreen North Coast, says a regular breast screen is one of the most important things women can do for their health. 

“Detecting breast cancer early increases your chance of survival while reducing the likelihood of invasive treatment, such as mastectomy or chemotherapy.

Health jobs on display at Tweed Valley Careers Expo

Annual Awards celebrate innovative local health projects

Programs to help mental health clients to be more physically active, increase the leadership capacity of nurses and midwives, and process referrals using artificial intelligence were among the initiatives showcased at Northern NSW Local Health District’s annual Quality Awards.

Acting Chief Executive, Lynne Weir, congratulated the nine finalists across five team categories, as well as several individual award winners who picked up their awards at the ceremony in Goonellabah on 21 June.

Aboriginal women and their families who come to the Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) Women’s Care Unit will be better connected to culture and Country, thanks to a suite of artworks now in place throughout the Unit.

The artworks are part of the ‘My place is your place’ project, a collaboration between the Aboriginal Maternal Infant Health Service (AMIHS), Lismore Base Hospital and Arts Northern Rivers to improve the cultural inclusiveness and safety of the Women’s Care Unit.

New Tweed Valley Hospital to open in early 2024

A new opening schedule has been confirmed for the $723.3 million Tweed Valley Hospital which is now anticipated to open in early 2024.

Since the main works started on the new Tweed Valley Hospital, a number of external pressures have impacted the construction schedule, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the February 2022 floods, construction industry labour shortages and global supply chain interruption.

Northern NSW hospitals perform throughout another busy period

Public hospitals across Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) continued to deliver high quality, timely care to the community amid high levels of activity in the most recent quarterly reporting period.

The latest Bureau of Health Information (BHI) Healthcare Quarterly report (January to March 2023) shows there were 54,913 attendances to NNSWLHD emergency departments.

Acting Chief Executive for Northern NSW Local Health District, Lynne Weir, said staff were providing excellent care to the community in the wake of local challenges.

Staff and care rated highly in Northern NSW EDs during COVID-19

Patients who attended emergency departments (EDs) in Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) during the COVID-19 pandemic have rated health staff and the care they received highly.

The latest Bureau of Health Information’s Emergency Department Patient Survey provides a snapshot of the experiences of 2247 patients who attended NNSWLHD’s EDs from July 2021 to June 2022. During this period, more than 210,500 people attended EDs across the District.
