The mobile breast screening van will be returning to New Brighton this year to offer free screening mammograms to local women in the area. The van will be parked in Tom Kendall Oval/ local Farmers Market site at New Brighton from 29 April until mid-May 2024 and is easily accessible via Park Street.

Murwillumbah District Hospital (MDH) will continue to provide key health care services to the Tweed Valley community when the new Tweed Valley Hospital (TVH) becomes operational in May.

The North Coast community and visitors to the region are being urged to take precautions to prevent mosquito bites after recent detections of mosquito borne viruses during surveillance.

North Coast Public Health Unit Associate Director Robin Auld said the detections, combined with an expected seasonal increase in mosquito numbers, have increased the community’s risk of contracting mosquito-borne diseases.

“Mosquitoes in the NSW North Coast can carry viruses which can lead to debilitating illness in humans, such as Ross River and Barmah Forest,” Mr Auld said.

The Tweed Heads community will benefit from a range of community-based and outreach health services to be delivered under one roof on the site of the current Tweed Hospital, after hospital services transfer to the Tweed Valley Hospital later this year.
The Tweed Heads Community Health Centre (THCHC) will be located at Powell Street, on the western side of the existing Tweed Hospital campus.
