The Tweed Hospital has two dedicated surgical inpatient units, each providing specific patient-centred care to surgical patients.
Surgical Ward 1 – General Surgery
This 30-bed unit cares for patients undergoing a wide range of general and complex surgical procedures. The surgical unit staff are experienced in caring for patients with post-operative complications including pain management, wound care, and nutritional needs. Single rooms are allocated according to clinical need.

Surgical Ward 2 – Orthopaedic Surgery
This 24-bed unit provides care for elective surgical and orthopaedic trauma cases and includes an eight-bed high volume surgical unit for the post-operative care of general surgical procedures. The Orthopaedic unit staff are experienced in caring for patients in the post-operative phase including pain management, wound care and nutritional needs. Physiotherapist, Occupational therapist and Pharmacist are involved in the multi-disciplinary approach to post-operative care.
