The Aboriginal Domestic and Family Violence Support Worker works with Aboriginal women and families living in area from Ballina out to Bonalbo and Urbenville who are experiencing domestic and family violence.

An initial assessment helps identify what support is required and looks at what goals can be set to improve the life of those experiencing violence.

We provide short term support, which can include:

  • Advocacy
  • Education on the emotional and psychological impact of violence
  • Assistance with housing
  • Legal matters such as Apprehended Violence Orders (AVOs), court support, safety planning, and
  • Referral to other specialist services.

The service also provides education programs in the community to women and families who have or are experiencing domestic and family violence, and who need access to other services.

We provide advocacy for clients who have experienced domestic and family violence. This is done together with Aboriginal women, community members and other services to increase safety for women and their children.

Our support worker is based within the Violence, Abuse and Neglect (VAN) Services at Indigo House, Lismore and can be reached by phoning the Intake Officer on (02) 6620 2970.
