Bereavement
Death and grief are a normal part of life, yet for some people the loss of a loved one, or any major loss such as a relationship breakup, job loss, and the loss of their home or livelihood, can result in an intense grief reaction referred to as ‘bereavement’.
While grief is a normal process, if the intense initial stages of grief lasts for more than six months and is having a negative impact on a person’s ability to do their normal daily activities, then seeking help is recommended. A visit to your GP may be appropriate.
Bereavement as a result of a suicide death can add layers of complexity and distress. Standby North Coast NSW is an organisation which will provide support to people bereaved by suicide. They can do this over the phone or in person. The suicide death could be recent or from some time ago, but there is ongoing distress. For 24/7 support phone 0417 119 298.
These organisations provide information and support for people experiencing bereavement.
