The Rural Spinal Cord Injury Service (RSCIS) supports people with Spinal Cord Injuries to access support services, treatment, support and evidence-based information to improve their health outcomes and opportunities.
The RSCIS operates as part of a “hub and spoke” model with the Spinal Outreach Service (SOS) located at Royal Rehabilitation, Ryde.
A Rural Coordinator is based at Ballina District Hospital and provides support to clients and clinicians across the Northern NSW Local Health District. The coordinator supports clients to manage the varied issues that occur as a result of living with a Spinal Cord Injury. They also provide a link between rural clinicians, rural SCI clients, and specialist metropolitan spinal cord injury specific services.
Who can access the RSCIS?
- People with an acquired SCI where there is persistent neurological deficit arising from either a traumatic or non-traumatic but non-progressive cause
- People aged 16 years and over
- People with functional, psychosocial or health promotion goals
- Resident within the Northern NSW Local Health District
