In an emergency, always call triple zero (000). It’s a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For other urgent medical issues, go to an Emergency Department.

Our Emergency Departments are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week:

Diabetes Services for pregnant women are provided through the following Community Health Centres across NNSWLHD;

  • Lismore Base Hospital
  • Grafton Base Hospital
  • The Tweed Hospital
  • Murwillumbah District Hospital
  • Byron Central Hospital

Clinical care is provided for all pregnant women who have existing or newly diagnosed diabetes. Appointments are prioritised for pregnant women with Type 1 Diabetes, Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) and Type 2 Diabetes on insulin.

Referral is made directly to an Obstetrician if blood glucose levels are unstable and the patient is 36-40 weeks gestation as they may need to be induced rather than commence insulin. Women with Gestational Diabetes are contacted after birth to discuss post Gestational Diabetes Oral Glucose Tolerance Testing.
