Diabetes Services for pregnant women are provided through the following Community Health Centres across NNSWLHD.

Clinical care is provided for all pregnant women who have existing or newly diagnosed diabetes. Appointments are prioritised for pregnant women Pregnancy and Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM).

What to expect

  • Group or individualised consultation with both the diabetes educator and the diabetes dietitian.
    • General education
    • Individualised ongoing support weekly from diagnosis to confinement in person or via telehealth services
  • Education on self-management of gestational diabetes or diabetes in pregnancy
  • Supply of a blood glucose meter and education testing
  • Support and care.

Diabetes and Maternity Services work in collaboration to provide coordinated and safe care.

You may give birth at a larger hospital but you can receive diabetes educator and dietitian support from a Diabetes Service located closer to where you live. We may ask your permission to discuss diabetes management with specialist doctors and obstetricians so we can ensure safe and co-ordinated care.
