Mental Health Inpatient Units
Northern NSW Mental Health has a number of inpatient units for adults, older people, and young people.
Admission into one of our inpatient units can occur through the Emergency Department of one of our hospitals, or through our Community Mental Health Services.
Your GP can consult with mental health services and arrange assessment at your local Emergency Department, where an admission can be arranged if required.
Tallowwood – Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit is a 24-bed acute adult inpatient unit for both voluntary and involuntary patients located at the Lismore Base Hospital.

Kamala – Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit is an eight-bed inpatient unit providing services for young people aged 12 to 17 years.

Lilli Pili – Older Persons Mental Health Unit is a 12-bed inpatient unit specifically for people aged 65 years and older, and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and older.

Kurrajong – Adult Mental Health Unit is a 25-bed acute inpatient unit for both voluntary and involuntary patients.

Tuckeroo – Byron Sub-Acute Mental Health Unit is a 20-bed sub-acute adult inpatient unit for both voluntary and involuntary patients who require a lower level of support than provided at the Kurrajong and Tallowwood inpatient units. The focus of the admission is to improve skills and confidence to support the person with their recovery.
Visiting Hours: 12 noon to 8pm daily.
