Over two consecutive weekends in March, more than 5,500 Tweed Hospital staff, their family and friends, local community members and health practitioners got a sneak peek inside the new Tweed Valley Hospital.
Saturday 9 March saw hospital staff show their loved ones through the new facility, with plenty of high spirits and excitement.
On Saturday 16 March, a hugely successful Community Open Day brought thousands of locals through the doors, with Emergency, Cancer Services and Maternity some of the most popular departments visitors were keen to see.
“A massive thank you to our fabulous Tweed Hospital Auxiliary, who ran a sausage sizzle on the day, and to our Healthcare Helpers (volunteers) who helped everyone find their way around the facility,” Adam Reid, A/General Manager, The Tweed Hospital/Tweed Valley Hospital, said.
“Thank you and congratulations to all our staff members who showed people through their departments and worked tirelessly behind the scenes to create such great events. We couldn’t have done it without you!
“The excitement on both days was palpable, as people had the opportunity to experience their new hospital first-hand. With lots of positive feedback, everyone can’t wait for the new hospital to open.”
One visitor also shared her personal thanks.
“A huge thank you to the organisers and many, many staff and volunteers who made the visit such an interesting and pleasant experience. The hospital looks absolutely amazing.”
With around 8.5 weeks until opening, staff are now busy with orientation and operational commissioning, getting to know their new site, and making sure all the equipment, systems and furniture are in place.
The hospital will open to patients on Tuesday 14 May 2024.
