EMERGENCY

In an emergency, always call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Ambulances are the safest way to be assessed, treated and transported to the right hospital for the care you need.

Triple zero (000) is a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For less severe but still urgent situations, go to an Emergency Department.

There are 12 public hospital Emergency Departments in Northern NSW Local Health District and they are all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Northern NSW Local Health District’s (NNSWLHD) permanent vaccination clinics at Lismore, Tweed Heads and Grafton will wind-up operations in mid-September after more than eighteen months supporting the region’s successful COVID-19 vaccination program.

More than 128,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered to date through the clinics, however, with significantly decreased attendance, staff working in the clinics will now be redeployed back to their previous roles in hospitals and health services, where they are needed most.

NNSWLHD Chief Executive Wayne Jones thanked the community for coming forward in such strong numbers and rolling up their sleeves to receive their COVID-19 vaccinations.

“The past few years have been challenging for everyone, but our community has remained committed to getting vaccinated against COVID-19,” Mr Jones said.

“Our vaccination teams have done a stellar job, contributing to the huge vaccination program which began in March 2021.”

“None of us will forget the massive effort involved in transforming vacant shops and office spaces into purpose-built vaccination centres in record time, as well as the need to relocate clinics affected by the devastating floods.”

Through a range of permanent and mobile vaccination clinics, NNSWLHD has visited more than 65 locations across Northern NSW including hospitals, shopping centres, public parks, sporting fields and events, including several flood-affected towns.

Local GPs and pharmacies will continue to provide COVID-19 vaccinations, as part of the more than 3,500 vaccine providers across NSW.

“I encourage people to keep up to date with their jabs moving forward, as a key action we can take to continue protecting ourselves and our communities,” Mr Jones said.

The final days for the vaccination clinics are:

  • Tweed Heads – last day Friday 16 September
  • Lismore – last day Monday 19 September
  • Grafton – last day Wednesday 21 September

NSW Health has contingency plans in place to support GPs and pharmacies if rapid upscaling is required to accommodate an additional booster dose or a new vaccine for a new variant of concern.
