The new Tweed Valley Hospital Integrated Cancer Service celebrated Cancer Nurses’ Day on 15 August with a generous breakfast spread and certificates of recognition.
TVH Director of Nursing Rachel Andrew acknowledged the strength, skills and specialised knowledge of the Cancer Nurses.
“These nurses give above and beyond to their patients, always with deep compassion. They are a very special group of staff,” Rachel said.
With the recent move to the new Tweed Valley Hospital, the Integrated Cancer Service and specialist nursing team has been expanded. The Integrated Cancer Service now provides a comprehensive range of services to meet the needs of patients who are being treated for all cancers including haematological (blood) cancers and non-malignant infusions.
The cancer nursing team now includes over 30 specialised nurses, including medical oncology, clinical trials, specialist breast and prostate cancer, and with the addition of radiation oncology services at the new hospital, there's also radiation oncology nurses.
Daniel O’Flynn, TVH Assistant Director of Nursing, was at the Cancer Care Nurses Day team breakfast to recognise the tireless efforts and unwavering commitment of the Cancer Nurses team at Tweed Valley Hospital.
“Cancer nurses are more than just healthcare providers; they are confidantes, advocates and a source of strength. They hold patients’ hands, listen to their fears and celebrate their victories. Their work extends far beyond the clinical setting, touching the hearts and souls of those they serve,” Dan said.
