Working with horses is a lifelong love for staff members Sarah Lawty and Colleen McQueen, who both competed at the Bonalbo Show recently.
“I have been riding horses since I was a child, they have always been a big part of my life,” said Sarah, NNSWLHD Acting Associate Director Nursing and Midwifery Leadership, Culture and Research.
Sarah competed her mare, O’Reilly’s Four Oaks (Lacey is her paddock name), in the Australian Stock Horse classes, as well as in the Jim Brown Memorial Challenge, which requires riding several obstacles and a pattern workout.
“Competing gives me a sense of accomplishment, it reminds me to keep working hard and to stay humble, because no matter how prepared you are a lot can go wrong!
“I love competing at Bonalbo, my kids used to compete their ponies here when they were younger, it is a very friendly and welcoming country show,” Sarah said.
Colleen is a Food and Patient Support Officer at Bonalbo MPS, and also a prominent breeder of Australian Stock Horses and a successful competitor in the sport.
Four of Colleen’s bred horses were competing in the Show and took home a swag of placings and championship ribbons.
One of our Urbenville MPS residents, Pam Le Clerc was also a winner at the show. She entered the beaded artwork section and came second!
