EMERGENCY

In an emergency, always call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Ambulances are the safest way to be assessed, treated and transported to the right hospital for the care you need.

Triple zero (000) is a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For less severe but still urgent situations, go to an Emergency Department.

There are 12 public hospital Emergency Departments in Northern NSW Local Health District and they are all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

NSW Health’s Single Digital Patient Record (SDPR) project is a once in a generation clinical transformation program, to replace nine existing EMR platforms, six PAS, five pathology LIMS and several other clinical support systems into one new platform.

Once fully implemented, this contemporary capability will bring substantial benefits to the delivery of health care services across the state.

Representatives from both NNSWLHD and MNCLHD have now been appointed to Configuration Working Groups, and these representatives will be playing a role in one of the biggest changes to a health system Australia has seen to date.

Dr David Glendinning, NNSWLHD Chief Clinical Information Officer is a member of the Interoperability working group.

“I’m keen to ensure that we have as seamless as possible information flow with General Practice and other primary health care providers,” David said.

“It’s important the issue of cross-border clinical information sharing is considered as this is particularly relevant to our region.”

Rowena Knight, NNSWLHD Clinical Nurse Consultant, Emergency, has been appointed to the Emergency working group and has a specific interest in ensuring that the configuration of the SDPR meets the needs of rural, regional and metro hospitals.

“Often the smaller rural and regional facilities have no doctor on site, so it is vital that the SDPR includes virtual care, and we hope to be able to influence this in the working group consultation,” Rowena said.
