Our planet's health affects our health, and as Australia's largest health system, we can make a positive difference.
NSW Health have set targets to cut down on energy use and high emissions anaesthetic gases; re-imagine our transport; improve waste management and develop high quality, low carbon models of care.
In the 2023 PMES, 79% of NNSWLHD respondents supported our organisation taking action to improve environmental sustainability. Staff can receive support for both innovative ideas and funding to make change.
There are many ways you can get involved:
- Apply for up to $25,000 in the NSW Health Sustainable Futures Innovation Fund to bring your idea to life. The Fund provides staff the budget to develop an initiative that enhances patient care and reduces our environmental impact.

- Join the NSW Health Sustainability Network, an online staff community driving sustainability reforms, sharing initiatives, and fostering collaboration. The Network meets monthly, and you’ll have access to the Sharepoint site with resources.
- Enrol in the new Climate Risk and Net Zero elearning pathway via My Health Learning (code 506148723). It’s designed to help staff understand our climate risk strategy and how to design your own sustainability projects in your workplace.
