A spirited social cricket match took place on Sunday 8 December at the Sam Trimble Oval in Bexhill as JMOs (Junior Medical Officers) and SMOs (Senior Medical Officers) faced off under the scorching sun.
The day was set for fun, competition, and camaraderie, but it turned into a memorable contest that saw JMOs emerge victorious despite a few clever tactics by the SMO team.
With temperatures soaring into the mid-30°Cs as the match began, hot and humid conditions made it difficult for players to maintain focus and hydration breaks were as frequent as the quick runs.
Despite the tough conditions, the match was a welcome distraction for the medical professionals, many of whom had been working long shifts in our hospitals.
The game was meant to be light-hearted; a chance for team building, friendly rivalry and a break from the daily grind.
While it was a mostly fair competition, the SMOs decided to 'borrow' a key player from the JMO cohort to aide them in securing a victory. Despite the SMOs’ strategic ploy, the JMOs were victorious.
After the match, both teams gathered for a well-deserved cold drink and shared stories of their playing experiences.
The short-lived rivalry was put aside and the focus shifted to the true essence of the day: friendship, fun and a shared love for cricket.
