EMERGENCY

In an emergency, always call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Ambulances are the safest way to be assessed, treated and transported to the right hospital for the care you need.

Triple zero (000) is a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For less severe but still urgent situations, go to an Emergency Department.

There are 12 public hospital Emergency Departments in Northern NSW Local Health District and they are all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Emergency departments are located at:

Eight more staff from across the LHD have now earned their stripes as qualified Violence Prevention and Management (VPM) Trainers after doing the 5-day VPM ‘Train the Trainer’ course in mid-August.

“These new trainers will supplement our current trainers and moving forward, will become senior trainers and valued members of our team,” said Barry Potts, NNSWLHD VPM Coordinator.

“The enthusiasm shown during the course was encouraging to see and I look forward to working with them.”

Violence Prevention and Management is a mandatory training program across NSW for all clinical and support staff (wardspersons, security etc), and our trainers play a vital role in facilitating these workshops across the District.

The workshops cover topics such as recognising potential triggers that may lead to aggression or violence, de-escalation skills and physical techniques to extract oneself from a situation or, for some, how to restrain someone whilst minimising the risk of injury to either themselves or others.

If you’d like to join the team and contribute to the safety of our staff, contact District Coordinator, Barry Potts via email.
