EMERGENCY

In an emergency, always call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Ambulances are the safest way to be assessed, treated and transported to the right hospital for the care you need.

Triple zero (000) is a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For less severe but still urgent situations, go to an Emergency Department.

There are 12 public hospital Emergency Departments in Northern NSW Local Health District and they are all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

This Valentine’s Day, we’re shining a spotlight on Liam and Julia, a pair of Radiation Therapists at Tweed Valley Hospital who balance life, work and love in perfect harmony.

The couple first met during clinical placements at university in Melbourne, bonding over their shared desire to help others.

“At uni we both thought we wanted to do something in the medical field,” Liam said.

“Later on, I had a relative go through radiation therapy and saw how much it helped them, so we saw the course and thought it sounded like a really interesting career path.”

After seeing Tweed Valley Hospital being built during a holiday on the Gold Coast, Liam and Julia made the move from Melbourne last year and haven’t looked back.

While they rarely work side by side, their connection enhances their careers and patient care.

“We have learnt so much from each other, and this has absolutely helped us progress faster in our jobs and ultimately help give better care to our patients,” Julia said.

Outside of work, the couple makes time for fun activities like trips to the beach and travel, keeping life in perspective.

They’re now preparing for their next big milestone: their wedding in March.

This Valentine’s Day, they’ll be in Melbourne for their buck and hen's parties, but in the morning, they’re hoping to enjoy a quiet breakfast together.
