EMERGENCY

In an emergency, always call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Ambulances are the safest way to be assessed, treated and transported to the right hospital for the care you need.

Triple zero (000) is a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For less severe but still urgent situations, go to an Emergency Department.

There are 12 public hospital Emergency Departments in Northern NSW Local Health District and they are all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Northern NSW set to benefit from Local Healthy Lifestyle Initiatives

People across Northern NSW are to benefit from a grants scheme which will see a number of schools, community groups and organisations receive up to $5,000 for initiatives to support them in promoting a healthy lifestyle.

The ‘Healthy and Well’ grants scheme which opened Monday, 19 September 2022, supports community groups to launch or grow initiatives to keep people healthy.

Ten grants of up to $5,000 each are available for initiatives across the Northern NSW Local Health District.

Grant applications should fit into one or more of the following areas:

  1. Healthy recovery: helping our communities get back to healthy eating and active living post-floods.
  2. Healthy start to life: Healthy living from conception through to age five.
  3. Healthy ageing: Moving more and eating well to stay strong, feel good and prevent falls, for people over 60 years of age and older.
  4. Healthy mind: using healthy eating, physical activity and social connection to contribute to mental wellbeing.
  5. Healthy mob: healthy lifestyle programs and activities for Aboriginal people and communities.

Acting Manager Health Promotion, Graeme Williams said the local community is great at coming up with innovative ideas for healthy living.

“Community led programs do a fantastic job of coming up with fabulous ideas which reach and include vulnerable community members,” Mr Williams said.

This initiative comes just after the publication of the NSW Healthy Eating and Active Living Strategy 2022-2032 which aims to boost the health of children and adults across the state over the next decade.

Mr Williams urged schools, community groups and organisations across Northern NSW to submit their ideas.

“We are excited to see the communities’ applications roll in,” he said.

Applications close Friday, 11 November 2022.  To apply, or for more information visit NNSWLHD Health Promotion’s website at https://health-promotion.nnswlhd.health.nsw.gov.au/healthy-community-grants-2022
