EMERGENCY

In an emergency, always call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Ambulances are the safest way to be assessed, treated and transported to the right hospital for the care you need.

Triple zero (000) is a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For less severe but still urgent situations, go to an Emergency Department.

There are 12 public hospital Emergency Departments in Northern NSW Local Health District and they are all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Let’s do this Byron! New COVID-19 vaccination clinic coming to Byron Bay
Published: 07 Oct 2021

Northern NSW Local Health District is opening a new COVID-19 vaccination clinic in Byron Bay to encourage more people to come forward to get vaccinated to protect themselves and their community.

The NSW Health clinic will be offering Pfizer vaccines at the Byron Bay Surf Club, Bay Street, Byron Bay from Friday 8 October to Friday 22 October. The clinic will be open Monday to Friday between 8am and 3.30pm, with walk-ins and booked appointments available.

NNSWLHD COVID-19 Vaccination Program Coordinator, Matt Long, said the District has been continuing to work closely with health partners and community leaders to expand local vaccination options as vaccine supply increases across the region.

“As restrictions in NSW gradually start to ease, the risk of coming into contact with someone who has the virus will be higher,” Mr Long said.

“As of 4 October, 72 per cent of people in the Byron Shire had received their first dose, but it’s important we continue to drive vaccination rates to increase the level of protection among the community to keep everyone safe.

“COVID-19 is a serious illness which can affect people of all ages. Completing both doses of either Astra Zeneca, Pfizer or Moderna can reduce a person’s chance of hospital admission and death by around 90%, and also reduces the spread of the virus to others.

“We are implementing a range of measures to ensure vaccination is accessible to everyone, including our most vulnerable, to reduce some of the barriers which may have prevented people from coming forward so far.

“The District will be rolling out mobile vaccination clinics in Byron and Mullumbimby during October, specifically targeting our vulnerable communities.”

Bookings for people aged 12 years and over can be made at a NSW Health vaccination clinic, including the Byron Bay clinic, as well as at a range of GPs and pharmacies throughout the Shire, via the COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic Finder.

“If you haven’t yet made an appointment elsewhere, we urge you to book your vaccination today,” Mr Long said.

If you do not have a Medicare card and want to have a digital record of your vaccination, then you will need an Individual Healthcare Identifier.  You can apply for an IHI at healthupnorth.info/IHI
