Little Leo Morgan of Casuarina recently decided that he wanted to do something special to help children who will spend Christmas at The Tweed Hospital.
After talking to his parents about some ideas, five-year-old Leo decided to ride his bicycle for five laps of his local park for five days, for a donation of five dollars.
Leo made a video to promote his idea and received sponsorship from friends, family, neighbours and day care teachers.
On day one Leo completed six laps, and added an extra lap each day, completing 10 laps or over 3.5 kilometres on the final day, proud to have completed it with no parents and no drinks break.
Leo rode a total of 15 kilometres and raised $160 which he donated to The Tweed Hospital children’s ward for the purchase of toys.
Leo’s mum Tania said Leo had to ride early, before day care, with his mum or his Pop, with his three-year-old sister cheering him on.
“There are many proud moments as a parent, big and small, but this has certainly been something to celebrate about his beautiful nature and generous heart,” Tania said.
Samantha Peterson, Paediatric Ward Nurse Unit Manager at The Tweed Hospital, said Leo was “a hero of kindness”.
“We’d like to thank Leo for his very kind gesture of raising this money so children at the Tweed kids’ ward have some fun toys to play with while in hospital over Christmas,” Samantha said.
