Families in Northern NSW can access support to build healthy habits together, including tips and assistance for getting active, healthy eating and overall wellbeing by taking part in a free 10-week after-school program for children aged 7–13 and their families.
Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) Acting Director of Integrated Care and Allied Health Services, Kathryn Watson, said enrolments for Term 4 Go4Fun programs in Banora Point, Pottsville, Murwillumbah and Grafton were filling fast.
“We have been working closely with local communities to identify how Go4Fun can work for them, including by making the registration process easier, hosting programs at local schools and community centres, or working with local people to promote programs,” Ms Watson said.
“As a result, we have seen a surge in enrolments. It shows that families are valuing a free, locally based program that includes games, activities and prizes and helps families and children to connect with others in their local area”.
“Go4Fun helps kids and their families who want to get healthier together, with easy tips to make changes and fun activities to put these changes into practice.”
Parents and carers can now enrol their children in the Term 4 programs in Tweed or Grafton.
For families who can’t attend in person, there is also a free 10-week Go4Fun Online program.
“The advantage with Go4Fun Online is that families can start the program at any time, as it isn’t term based and they can fit weekly sessions in around their busy schedules,” Ms Watson said.
Parents and carers can sign up to the program directly, and health professionals and GPs can also refer their patients.
