EMERGENCY

In an emergency, always call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Ambulances are the safest way to be assessed, treated and transported to the right hospital for the care you need.

Triple zero (000) is a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For less severe but still urgent situations, go to an Emergency Department.

There are 12 public hospital Emergency Departments in Northern NSW Local Health District and they are all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If you’ve ever walked through the halls of Kyogle MPS, chances are you’ve seen Daniel Shorts – or just 'Dan' as everyone knows him – with a mop in hand and a smile on his face.

Dan's been part of the Kyogle MPS family for more than 20 years – he said he’s lost track of time because he loves his job so much.

“Time goes for me because I enjoy what I do,” he said.

“I like talking to staff and socialising with the aged care residents and their visitors and volunteers.”

He started out in the kitchen, preparing breakfasts and lunches and handing them out with a smile. These days, he’s a hospital assistant, helping keep the place clean, safe and welcoming for everyone.

But Dan’s impact goes far beyond his job description. He’s known for his friendly chats with staff and his warm connection with aged care residents. One of his favourite memories is when Kyogle Hospital became a Multi-Purpose Service and aged care was added. He loves seeing residents celebrate birthdays, watching volunteers lend a hand and welcoming visiting animals that bring joy to the whole facility.

Nurse Unit Manager Nancy Martin says Dan is a pleasure to work with.

“His easy-going nature and genuine care for others make him a much-loved part of the team," she said.

“Dan’s kindness, dedication and cheerful spirit are what make Kyogle MPS feel like home.”
