EMERGENCY

In an emergency, always call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Ambulances are the safest way to be assessed, treated and transported to the right hospital for the care you need.

Triple zero (000) is a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For less severe but still urgent situations, go to an Emergency Department.

There are 12 public hospital Emergency Departments in Northern NSW Local Health District and they are all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

COVID-19 Update - positive case visited Wardell and Cabbage Tree Island

There were no new cases of COVID-19 reported in NNSWLHD to 8pm 21 September.

NNSWLHD can confirm a person who is now a confirmed case of COVID-19 recently passed through the Wardell and Cabbage Tree Island areas. This person does not reside in the area, and has now been back in Sydney for several days.

Initial investigations indicate that this case was infectious between 14 and 16 September in the Wardell and Cabbage Tree Island areas. Contact tracing is currently under way and this information will be provided as more details become available, including any exposure venues of public concern.

Contact tracing involves a detailed interview process, cross checking available electronic data from QR codes, CCTV footage or other channels. It also involves risk assessments of any potential exposure venues, and this can include investigating the number of people present at a venue, the physical environment, and whether masks, and physical distancing and hygiene practices were in place.

As a precautionary measure to help detect any potential transmission quickly, we are asking all members of the Cabbage Tree Island community to come forward for testing as soon as possible, even if they do not have symptoms of COVID-19.

People in Cabbage Tree Island will not need to isolate after getting their test if they:

  • Don’t have any symptoms
  • Don’t live with someone who has any symptoms
  • Haven’t been to a venue of concern at the specified time, and
  • are not a household close contact of someone with COVID-19.

For all other areas across the District, we urge anyone with have even mild cold-like symptoms, to get tested and isolate until a negative result is received.

We encourage members of the community to continue checking in and out of venues they attend, as this assists contact tracers to identify individuals and premises where there is a risk of transmission of COVID-19.
