EMERGENCY

In an emergency, always call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Ambulances are the safest way to be assessed, treated and transported to the right hospital for the care you need.

Triple zero (000) is a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For less severe but still urgent situations, go to an Emergency Department.

There are 12 public hospital Emergency Departments in Northern NSW Local Health District and they are all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

COVID-19 Update - additional case in Kyogle
Published: 29 Sep 2021

Two new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in residents of the Northern NSW Local Health District to 8pm 28 September.

These cases, in Byron and Kyogle, were announced yesterday evening. Both cases had been infectious in the community, and contact tracing and investigations are currently under way.

Public Health is following up a number of close and casual contacts associated with these cases.

A further case has also been confirmed in the Kyogle area after 8pm last night, this person is a close contact of the first Kyogle case and will be included in tomorrow’s NSW Health numbers.

It has also been confirmed that a Queensland-based truck driver who transited through NSW has tested positive for COVID-19. This case was infectious in the community on 27 and 28 September, and visited venues in Tweed Heads, Byron Bay and Ballina, as well as other sites outside Northern NSW.

Investigations into this case are underway, and information about public exposure venues will be provided as soon as possible.

Sewage surveillance has detected fragments of the COVID-19 virus in samples taken from the South Grafton sewage treatment plant on 27 September. This plant serves around 6,300 people. This is the third detection in seven days in this area.

There are no known cases in the Grafton or Clarence Valley region, and we strongly urge residents and visitors to be vigilant for symptoms and please get tested as soon as they feel unwell. It’s important to isolate while waiting for your test result, and follow the instructions given to you by Health staff.

Symptoms of COVID-19 can include a runny nose, scratchy or sore throat, cough, fever, shortness of breath, headache, tiredness, loss of taste or smell, nausea, diarrhoea or muscle aches.

There are more than 500 COVID-19 testing locations across NSW, many of which are open seven days a week. To find your nearest clinic visit COVID-19 testing clinics or contact your GP.

We encourage our community to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as they are able to. Find available bookings at the Commonwealth Government’s COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic Finder, or you can also call Health Direct on 1800 57 11 55 for assistance to book.
