In an emergency, always call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Ambulances are the safest way to be assessed, treated and transported to the right hospital for the care you need.

Triple zero (000) is a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For less severe but still urgent situations, go to an Emergency Department.

There are 12 public hospital Emergency Departments in Northern NSW Local Health District and they are all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Update on Aquarius Backpackers in Byron Bay

Northern NSW Local Health District is continuing to support guests and staff at the Aquarius Backpackers in Byron Bay, in conjunction with other agencies, after a person at the venue tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week.

More than 100 close and casual contacts associated with the venue have been tested for COVID-19, and no positive results have been received so far.

Health staff are working closely with guests to determine appropriate isolation settings for each person and provide advice on requirements.

These options may include remaining at the venue, returning to their place of usual residence, utilising special health accommodation or community support accommodation, or another private accommodation venue. A number of guests have already begun to check out.

Additional cleaning services, sanitation and personal protective equipment are being supplied to the venue, as well as Mental Health support from trained health staff, to support the physical and mental wellbeing of guests and staff on-site.

We continue to urge anyone who feels even slightly unwell to get tested for COVID-19 and isolate until they receive a negative result.
