Northern NSW Local Health District continues to urge people to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and to seek testing immediately if symptoms develop.
Two new cases of COVID-19 were reported for NNSWLHD to 8pm 24 November.
One of these cases is located in the Casino area of Richmond Valley Local Government Area, and is linked to an existing case. The other case is located in the Ballina LGA and is a household contact of an existing case.
NNSWLHD can now confirm that one further case, reported earlier in NSW Health’s daily totals, is located in Byron LGA.
This case is an on-site worker who resides at the Aquarius Backpackers in Byron Bay, and NNSWLHD is working closely with the business to provide health and operational support.
Contact tracing has begun, and at this early stage more than 80 potential contacts have been identified in relation to this case.
Eighty-one current guests and on-site staff are close contacts and required to isolate.
On-site COVID-19 testing is occurring today, as well as on-site vaccination for any eligible contacts.
NNSWLHD is working with other agencies, such as NSW Police, to support the guests and staff with food supplies and other essential items.
We urge residents and visitors to our region to get tested immediately if they have even mild COVID-19 symptoms. High rates of testing are critical to detecting transmission and prevent further spread of COVID-19 in the community.
