EMERGENCY

In an emergency, always call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Ambulances are the safest way to be assessed, treated and transported to the right hospital for the care you need.

Triple zero (000) is a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For less severe but still urgent situations, go to an Emergency Department.

There are 12 public hospital Emergency Departments in Northern NSW Local Health District and they are all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) is inviting applications from community members to join its Byron Community Advisory Group (CAG).

NNSWLHD has a number of community advisory groups spread across the region, which provide advice, feedback and guidance to the health service. There are vacancies on the Byron CAG following recent resignations.

Byron CAG Chair Jude Fanton, a Byron Bay resident, said the CAG plays an important role in representing the community’s voice and helping to ensure NNSWLHD services meet the needs and expectations of the Byron community.

“The CAG provides a vital link between the Local Health District and the community, offering insights, feedback, and suggestions on a variety of topics, including patient care, hospital operations, mental health and community health,” Ms Fanton said.

“We meet every two months and members hear about what’s happening in the health service as well as share ideas and experiences, raise concerns and contribute to special projects.  As an example, something that really interested me this past year were presentations about the new Voluntary Assisted Dying legislation, and its roll-out across NNSWLHD.”

Patients, carers and community members from a diversity of backgrounds who would like to share their knowledge, and experiences to improve local health services are encouraged to apply.

Interested members of the community will be required to complete an application and screening, including a national police check.

Community advisory group members receive an honorarium payment for each meeting to cover out-of-pocket expenses.
