All seven Local Government Areas (LGA) within Northern NSW have reached a significant vaccination milestone this week, with each LGA now recording more than 80 percent of residents aged 15 and over as fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The milestone comes as Byron LGA reached 80.9 percent of residents now having received two doses, in the most recent updates released by the Commonwealth Government this week.
Chief Executive of Northern NSW Local Health District, Wayne Jones, said the community should be extremely proud of these efforts, which provide a significant level of protection for both individuals and the wider community against the disease.
“Vaccination against COVID-19 is an incredibly important public health measure, and it’s pleasing to see the local vaccination rates continue to increase as they are,” Mr Jones said.
“At the end of the day, each person who is vaccinated against COVID-19 not only reduces their own risk of ending up in hospital or dying from the virus, but they are also helping others around them by reducing the chances they’ll pass on the infection to others who may be more vulnerable.”

Mr Jones urged people to prioritise getting their vaccination ahead of Christmas, if they had not already done so.
“Our vaccination clinics, pharmacies and General Practices are continuing to offer a range of vaccination opportunities throughout our footprint,” Mr Jones said.
The permanent Lismore COVID-19 vaccination clinic has now opened in new premises at 138 Molesworth Street, Lismore, providing walk-ins and booked appointments for first, second or booster doses.
