Earlier this month, Murwillumbah District Hospital commemorated 120 years of health care, hosting a week of history and celebration which culminated in a BBQ for staff and family members on 14 September.
The hospital was officially opened in May 1904.
Visitors to the hospital have been able to browse a rich display of historical photos and stories from staff members and volunteering over the past 120 years.
Around 100 people attended the BBQ, including special guests Des Ireland, one of the longest-serving previous CEOs of Murwillumbah District Hospital, and Dr Doug Warne, a long-standing local GP who also worked at the hospital.
The NNSWLHD Board Chair, Peter Carter and Chief Executive, Tracey Maisey, also attended.
Murwillumbah District Hospital Executive Director/Director of Nursing, Tracey Lea said the week was a chance to celebrate the many local connections and long history of the hospital.
“I am thrilled to celebrate this remarkable milestone that reflects our long-standing commitment to providing exceptional healthcare to our community,” Tracey said.
“This anniversary is not only a celebration of our history but also a tribute to the many generations of healthcare professionals who have worked tirelessly to serve our community with compassion and excellence.”
