MidStart is a career pathway for registered nurses to become midwives.
It offers paid employment as a midwifery student while studying a Graduate Diploma in Midwifery.

The NSW Aboriginal Nursing and Midwifery Cadetship program provides support and assistance to Aboriginal people studying an undergraduate nursing or midwifery degree at university.
Cadetships include:
- a study allowance of $600 per fortnight while studying for 40 weeks
- $500 per semester support allowance
- 12 weeks paid employment in a local public hospital or Justice Health facility
- support from an Aboriginal mentor, cadet coordinator and additional clinical support.
- the possibility of ongoing employment when you successful complete your studies and the program

The Elsa Dixon Aboriginal School Based Traineeship is a two-year program funded by Training Services NSW - Department of Industry, for year 11/12 students considering a career in Nursing with Northern NSW Local Health District.
We have opportunities for Aboriginal students entering year 11 in 2021 to complete the following course as part of the 2021- 2022 School Based Traineeship Program with Northern NSW Local Health District:
Enrolled Nurse scholarships include a position in the Diploma of Nursing program and employment as an enrolled nurse in a NSW Health facility (following successful completion of the diploma and standard recruitment and registration processes).
