Murwillumbah District Hospital – Day Procedures UnitThe Booking Office processes and manages the elective surgery bookings for both The Tweed Hospital and Murwillumbah District Hospital, coordinating and scheduling the operating lists of over 26 specialists.
The Day Surgery Unit, functions as a surgical ward admitting and preparing most elective surgery cases, and is responsible for the care and discharge of all elective surgery day cases. The unit has the capacity for 4 patient cubicles and 4 recliner chairs in the Day Surgery lounge.
- GP’s refer patients to surgeons who, following consultation with the patient, complete a Recommendation for Admission form (RFA). This form is then sent to the Tweed Heads Hospital Booking Office. Bookings staff then triage patients and those suitable for Murwillumbah Hospital then added to the Wait list and scheduled for surgery
- Murwillumbah Hospital does not have an ICU or overnight residents/registrars, therefore patients scheduled must meet a criteria. Essentially, patients of lower complexity with fewer co-morbidities will be scheduled for Murwillumbah Hospital
