EMERGENCY

In an emergency, always call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Ambulances are the safest way to be assessed, treated and transported to the right hospital for the care you need.

Triple zero (000) is a free call from any phone, mobile or phone box.

For less severe but still urgent situations, go to an Emergency Department.

There are 12 public hospital Emergency Departments in Northern NSW Local Health District and they are all available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The old Tweed Hospital at Tweed Heads

​Planning is underway to relocate remaining health services off the old Tweed Hospital site, which will provide patients and staff with new clinic spaces and modern, refurbished facilities.    

Health services currently delivered from the former hospital site will move to new clinic spaces at the Tweed Mall, on Wharf Street, Tweed Heads in late 2026.  

These services include the BreastScreen NSW clinic, Tweed Community Health services, and community-based Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs services.

The Needle and Syringe Program kiosk and the Tweed Heads Ambulance Station will remain located at the former hospital site.  

Northern NSW Local Health District Chief Executive Tracey Maisey said the relocation of the remaining health services would enable residents to continue to access vital healthcare in the centre of Tweed Heads.

“This relocation upholds our previous commitment to the local community, retaining a range of community health services in the Tweed Heads area to meet the ongoing healthcare needs of local residents,” Ms Maisey said.

“We are looking forward to delivering these important community health services in what will be modern, refurbished, fit-for-purpose facilities in the safe and secure environment of Tweed Mall, where there is ample free parking for clients.

“We’ll be working closely with our staff and patients to ensure a safe and smooth transition to the new location and will keep everyone informed as relocation dates are finalised.”

At present, there is no change to existing health services delivered at the old Tweed Hospital site, and all contact numbers, opening hours and service locations remain the same.
