HIV and Related Programs (HARP)

  HARP-1

HARP manages HIV/AIDS, sexual health and hepatitis C programs and services. Services also include:

  • health promotion
  • education and information
  • screening and testing,
  • treatment
  • health management, referral and counselling

HARP provides services across both the MNC and NNSW LHDs. The Unit covers the geographic area from Port Macquarie to Tweed Heads and west to Woodenbong and Dorrigo.

NNSW LHD Sexual Health Services sit under the umbrella of HARP.

Sexual Health and Viral Hepatitis (B and C) Services:

The Sexual Health Clinic includes:

  • clinical diagnosis treatment and management for all sexually transmitted infections.
  • Management and support of HIV infection and the assessment, management and support of viral hepatitis B and C.
  • Education is available for Health Care workers, NGOs and community groups.
  • Counselling and support services are also available for people with:
  • viral hepatitis
  • sexually transmissible infections including HIV

Referral:

  • Appointments are by self-referral
  • or referral by other health service providers
  • no appointment is necessary at one of the drop in clinics

Eligibility:

Sexual Health Services are for priority populations living on the North Coast. These include:

  • Aboriginal people
  • Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) populations
  • Men who have sex with men (MSM)
  • People living with or affected by HIV (PLWH)
  • People living with or affected by viral hepatitis (PLWVH)
  • People with Sexually Transmitted Infections; • People who inject drugs
  • Sex workers
  • Young people.

  • Lismore
  • Byron Bay
  • Grafton
  • Tweed Heads
  • Outreach clinic at the Murwillumbah Community Health Centre
  • Occasional appointments available at Maclean Community Health Centre.

HARP Health Promotion 

HARP Health Promotion service provides:

  • specialised health care provider workshops, community education forums
  • health promotion programs.

HARP collaborates with various NSW education facilities to enhance opportunities and access to information for local communities.

The Program also oversees the the North Coast Positive Adolescent Sexual Health Consortium (PASH). PASH is a network of over 30 North Coast organisations with a mandate of youth development, safety and health.

PASH services work together to support the sexual health and wellbeing of young people by pooling resources, knowledge, and evidence. PASH provides:

  • A network of support and collaboration
  • Identifies strengths and gaps in service delivery
  • Conducts research
  • Supports youth engagement and a youth-led approach by providing community consultation;
  • Safe sex practice education and promotion at community events
  • Service provider training
  • Peer Educators Engaging Peers (PEEPs).
