Pregnancy and Newborn Parenting Programs (Antenatal Classes)

The Childbirth and Early Parenthood Education Program provides courses to prepare women and their partners for birth and parenting. Information is discussed on subjects such as breastfeeding, normal labour progress and labour complications, labour pain relief options and what to expect in the first 6 weeks with a new baby etc. Birthing Suite tours are conducted as part of all the courses and also run separately at The Tweed Hospital Birthing Suite.

The courses are held at the hospital. You will need to attend one evening class per week for 4-6 weeks. Each class goes for two hours.

There are also Childbirth and Early Parenthood Education courses just for fathers at the:

  • The Tweed Hospital
  • Murwillumbah District Hospital
  • Byron Community Health

 There are also classes only at The Tweed Hospital for:

  • young pregnant women up to 21 years of age,
  • women who have had a previous caesarean birth
  • breastfeeding
