Child therapy services work with the child, parents and carers to assess and treat specific child health and developmental conditions. They also provide health promotion programs about child development and family wellbeing.
Child therapists provide individual and group services and can work in the hospital or in community settings. Services provide clinic, home and community visits.
Child therapy services also provide outreach services, consultation and partnership with other children’s service providers such as:
- private Allied Health professionals
- GPs
- Non Government Organisations
- child care
- preschools
- schools
- and family support programs.
Multidisciplinary teams, made up of Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, provide screening clinics across the area, e.g. KidScreen, to assess and provide interventions for a variety of concerns including: developmental delay, physical, sensory, communication and feeding difficulties. General developmental checks are completed by the Child and Family Health Nurse.
