Health Promotion programs are good value as they save lives by reducing illness and keeping people out of hospital and GP waiting rooms.

Health Promotion reduces the risk of chronic disease and preventable deaths. Most of these are caused by just six factors:

Every $1 invested in prevention can save over $5 in health spending. In Australia only half a cent in every dollar of the health care budget is spent on prevention.

The Health Promotion Unit in Northern NSW has a proven record of effective interventions that increase wellness, prevent or reduce illness, and are cost effective. Our current programs focus on reducing smoking, reducing risky drinking, and obesity prevention and improving diet and activity levels, falls prevention amongst older people, healthy equity and preventing hearing disadvantage.
