Can I view my medical record without getting a copy?

If you wish to only view your medical record (without obtaining ANY copies), please contact the Medico Legal Clerk of the relevant hospital for more information.


Can I collect a medical record belonging to someone else?

If you are requesting a medical record of another person, you must provide the written consent of that person.

In the event that the person is deceased, the applicant MUST have the consent of the next of kin and/or executor of the will. Proof will be required.

If you are requesting records relating to a minor, please contact the Medico-Legal Clerk of the relevant hospital for information.


How long does it take to get a copy of my record?

The general turnaround time for a copy of medical records is three weeks from the completed application and payment.

This time period may be extended if the request includes Community Mental Health records and/or Child and Adolescent/Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit records.
