Amputee Clinic

The Amputee Clinic at Murwillumbah District Hospital offers a comprehensive lower-limb amputation management program for people requiring access to prosthetic services. The amputee service provides seamless care to lower-limb amputees from the acute phase immediately after amputation through to long-term amputees who may be experiencing prosthetic issues.

Specific interventions include: pre-operative assessment and advice, acute post-operative medical and stump care as an Inpatient at the Urliup Rehabilitation Unit, pre-prosthetic equipment and discharge planning, prescription and manufacture of interim and definitive lower-limb prostheses, prosthetic gait training, and long-term wound, stump and prosthetic follow up. The service is staffed by a Rehabilitation Staff Specialist, an accredited Prosthetist, an accredited Physiotherapist with experience in lower limb amputation rehabilitation, as well as Nursing staff for wound management.
