Medical Ward

Murwillumbah District Hospital – Medical Ward

The Medical ward is a 19 bed unit that provides care for patients within the catchment area as well as out of district tertiary hospitals. The medical ward is able to provide telemetry heart monitoring for patients with non life threatening cardiac conditions. We also pride ourselves in providing end of life palliative care for those in our community. The medical ward provides patient centred care using the multidisciplinary team.

  • Flexible visiting hours apply between the hours of 10.00am and 8.00pm, although consideration of the patients need for rest or procedures will determine if visitors are able to visit
  • During the time between 1.30pm to 2.30pm, visitors may be asked to be excused for clinical nurse handover to occur for a short period
  • Referrals from GP room provide direct admission to the ward
  • Presentation to the emergency department. Patients who do not have their own GP can present to the emergency centre for consultation with an emergency doctor. On admission to the ward the patient will be allocated a doctor that is on call for that day
  • Transfer from a tertiary hospital. At times it may be necessary for patients from a major hospital (The Tweed Hospital) to be transferred to the Murwillumbah District Hospital to allow bed space for the more acute patient at the The Tweed Hospital
  • Patients that require Palliative care should notify their GP or their community nurse or notify the hospital to facilitate their transition into the hospital
