Maclean District Hospital Hospital – Surgical ServicesThe Clarence Valley Surgical Service Unit provides surgical care for patients of the Clarence Valley at Grafton Base Hospital and Maclean District Hospital. Both Units provide care from Pre-anaesthetic assessment through to surgery and Post-operative care. Maclean hospital has one theatre which operates one day per week for general surgery and Endoscopy, with one orthopaedic list per month. Grafton’s new unit was opened in December 2010 which saw the combining of Pre-anaesthetic clinics, the Day Proccedure Unit, three Operating Theatres, Recovery and the Sterilization Service. Grafton provides General Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Orthopaedic, ENT, Ophthalmology, Endoscopy and Dental care services.
- Patient’s are added to the surgical waiting list on receipt of a ‘Recommendation for Admission’ (RFA) form from their surgeon. The date of surgery is booked by the Waitlist staff in accordance with the urgency code
- Patient’s have a pre-anaesthetic assessment attended by a Registered Nurse and may be booked to see an Anaesthetist pre-operatively if required
- Patient’s are admitted through the unit on the day of Surgery. Approximately 80% of surgery is day only with the remainder being transferred to the wards post-operatively for ongoing care
