Epidemiology and Informatics

Our vision is to have healthier people living healthier lives. This profile provides an overview of the health of the people of the North Coast Area and is intended for a wide variety of users, including public health practitioners, planners, policy analysts, researchers, students and health consumers. Indicators are available at a North Coast Area level (compared to NSW and other Area Health Services), and where possible, also at a local government area level.

Links to Health Statistics:

Links have also been established to existing information from other sources including the NSW Chief Health Officer’s report, the NSW Population Health Survey and the NSW Cancer Registry Statistical Reporting Module. When the Health Profile links to information from another source a new window will open on top of the Health Profile window. To return to the Health Profile window, simply close the new window.

The profile provides a set of key indicators for monitoring the health of the Area’s residents. It also acts as a baseline for evaluating the effectiveness of health improvement strategies in reducing morbidity and mortality.

The majority of data used by the Public Health Unit in producing this profile were extracted from the HOIST ‘data warehouse’, established and operated by the Epidemiology and Surveillance Branch, Public Health Division, of NSW Health Department. Information has been gathered from the following datasets:

  • ABS Mortality Collection
  • Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR)
  • ABS Census of Population and Housing
