The Tweed Hospital – Medical Ward 1 – Acute Medical/Step-down Cardiac

This unit is a 28 bed acute medical unit with an emphasis on cardiology, respiratory and the cardio vascular stroke patients. The unit has 18 cardiac telemetry units and is designed to meet the care needs of patients with cardiac conditions from the Coronary Care Unit and the Emergency Department. Exercise Stress Testing is performed by highly trained Clinical Nurse Specialists and a successful Cardiac Rehabilitation program is initiated within the ward. Multidisciplinary care is provided by Physicians teams, Nursing, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Dieticians, Speech Therapists and Social Workers. Our multidisciplinary team of health professionals work with the patient and their family in providing an excellent standard of hospital care and facilitate a safe discharge.

  • General Visiting Hours: 2.00pm-8.00pm (NSW Times)
  • Patients are admitted to the Acute Medical Ward 1 through the Emergency Department. All patients are referred to the multi-disciplinary team who meet daily to review the patients needs
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation is undertaken daily on the ward by the Clinical Nurse Specialists and once discharged home the patients are invited back to attend the Cardiac Exercise Group and the formal 6 week Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. Patients are referred to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program from all over Australia through their National Heart Foundation Program
