Murwillumbah District Hospital – Assessment & Rehabilitation Program

The Outpatient Rehabilitation Clinic provides care for patients within the Murwillumbah Hospital catchment area. We provide a continuum of quality rehabilitation services permitting a smooth transition from a hospital environment to the community. The Outpatient Program is a rehabilitation mode of care or service that provides a therapy in a hospital setting to a person who is living in the community. Services are provided for patients discharged from the A&R Inpatient Unit who need follow-up care as well as outpatient referrals from the community. We have a Rehabilitation Staff Specialist who sees all patients accepted for referral. Also we have a Day Hospital and Outpatient service which provides a multi-disciplinary team approach, including access to Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Social Work services.

  • General Visiting Hours: 8.00am-12.00pm; 2:30pm-8.00pm and on request
  • Rehabilitation Specialist Clinic Appointments are: Monday afternoon and Thursday mornings
  • Day Hospital and Outpatient Team hours are: Monday to Friday 12:30 to 2.00pm
  • All patients seen in the Outpatient Clinic need a GP referral. The Rehabilitation Specialist will review all referrals to ascertain whether a medical review is required
  • The patient should meet the following entry criteria: Live in our catchment area, be keen to participate in therapy, be medically stable and have good cognition
  • Referrals to the inpatient ward are received from other hospitals or GP’s
