Lismore Base Hospital – Intensive Care/Coronary Care Unit

Lismore Base Hospital has an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) which has nine beds. Coronary Care Unit (CCU) is located within the same area and this unit has four beds. We provide services for the Lismore and surrounding areas.

An Intensive Care Unit is a specially staffed and equipped unit in the hospital that provides care for patients with life threatening or potentially life threatening conditions. Sometimes admission to ICU is planned such as after major surgery; however it may also be unexpected.

Nurses, doctors and many other health professionals who are involved in caring for the patient use a team approach. Our unit is a training unit for nurses, physiotherapy and medical officers and we support undergraduates from several universities.

Patients may be transferred to metropolitan hospitals for care and management that we cannot provide at Lismore Base Hospital.

We ask that on arrival you use intercom phone that allows you to speak to staff to arrange entry to our unit prior to entry it would be appreciated if you could utilise the antiseptic hand gel provided to cleanse your hands.

  • ICU visiting is restricted from 9.30am – 11.30am to facilitate patient medical rounds
  • CCU Visiting is unrestricted, however patient rest periods and access to medical care needs to be supported.
    • Admission to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) is authorised by the cardiologist/registrar on call
    • Admission to ICU/HDU is authorised by the intensivist on call
