Sub-Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit

The Sub Acute Mental Health Service is for people who no longer require acute inpatient treatment. It is a short stay residential care recovery support program. The main aim is to provide a ‘step up/step down’ short stay, sub-acute intervention aimed at assessing and treating mild to moderate mental health conditions towards independence and improved quality of life.

The Unit provides 20 beds, with 2 purposely built bariatric rooms. The focus of care encompasses clinical treatment and bio-psychosocial rehabilitation by a multi-disciplinary team. The approach to care is based on a recovery model.

  • The Byron Assessment Team operate 7 days a week from 8.30am until 10.30pm
  • The Treatment Team and the Youth and family Team work Mon-Fri from 8.30am until 5pm.
  • Access to the Sub-Acute Mental Health In[atient Unit is via referral from Acute Mental Health units within Northern NSW Local Health District.
