Inpatient Unit

The Inpatient Unit (IPU) is a 43 bed unit that provides is a mix of acute and sub-acute beds with the ability to manage specific patient types such as general medical, rehabilitation, maternity and detoxification.

The ward environment is enhanced with specialised fit-for-purpose inpatient rooms, such as specialised close observations beds, infectious isolation rooms, bariatric care capabilities, palliative care and cognitive impairment. telemetry heart monitoring for patients with non life threatening cardiac conditions. We also pride ourselves in providing patient and family focussed end of life palliative care.

Patient engagement is enhanced by patients and their families being included in care planning and self-management goals. The use of the patient whiteboards to develop and document care goals assists patients and their families/carers prepare for discharge and the outpatient environment.

  • IPU visiting hours are 10.00am to 8.00pm.
  • There is flexibility in visiting outside of these hours, which is to be discussed with the Nursing Unit Manager.
  • Referral for admission to the Inpatient Unit is via the Emergency Department and other referral sites, such as Tweed and Murwillumbah Hospitals.
  • On admission to the Inpatient Unit the patient will be allocated their General Practitioner (GP) if they have admitting rights, otherwise the doctor on call for the day will direct medical care.
