Older women may be particularly vulnerable to domestic violence due to their reduced level of self care, level of mobility, and need for help from others. Often the person abusing her is also the person caring for her i.e. husband, child, relative, paid care worker or practitioner. The common signs of domestic violence will be present but there might also be:
- Neglect – where she is deprived of food, heat, clothing, essential medication, comfort, or abandoned, putting her in danger
- Financial abuse – where her money, assets and resources are being denied to her and used by others.
